TWO-DAY TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR MIDDLE MANAGEMENT ON OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT

Since the financial crisis of 2007/2008, there has been an increasing focus on risk management and the financial stability of organisations. Various organisations embarked on the development of qualitative and quantitative criteria for managing risks. As such, risk management is becoming a management discipline in its own right.

In order to identify risks proactively and prevent a risk event from occurring, an integrated approach to strategic and risk management is imperative. This requires that all employees in the organisation are knowledgeable with risk management concepts and methodologies.

Course Outline:

The aim of this workshop is to familiarise delegates with the concept of operational risk management and their roles and responsibilities in protecting the organisation against the risk exposures.

About the presenter:

 

Academic Qualifications
Prof Young has obtained a BMil (BCom) degree through the South African Military Academy and holds a BCom Honours, MCom and DCom with the University of South Africa.

The doctorate thesis dealt with a structured approach to operational risk management in a banking environment.

Career
After a successful career as a financial officer in the South African Defence Force, Prof Young resigned to join Standard Bank of South Africa. During this period he gained valuable experience on a variety of banking activities and was also involved in the development and implementation of a group-wide operational risk management framework. He is currently the manager of the Centre for Business Management and involved in the post graduate studies for the Department of Finance, Risk Management & Banking.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Operational Risk Management, based in London as well as a member of the Institute of Risk Management South Africa.

He authored a book on operational risk management which is prescribed for various qualifications.

Prof Young presented papers on risk management at various national and international conferences such as the Middle East, USA, Finland, France and Australia. He also published a number of articles on risk management with an accredited international journal.
