Risk Manager of the Year 2016

Winner of the IRMSA 2016 Risk Manager of the Year

Christopher Palm

Christopher Palm is the Enterprise Risk Manager for Eskom Holdings. He is responsible for shaping, safeguarding and providing specialised risk management services to Eskom, its subsidiaries and to its business interests which expand beyond the country’s border. Eskom operates in a challenging environment that requires a technologically savvy, dynamic, driven and proficient risk manager which Christopher personifies. His ethical character, enthusiasm, competence and dedicated nature has contributed to many of Eskom’s successes in the field of risk management. Christopher leads the risk management programme in Eskom and has taken major strides toward driving the organisation to becoming risk intelligent by 2021. This has entailed intensive work with the Eskom Board of Directors and the Eskom Executive Committee. Driving this vision in an environment where Eskom faces many operational challenges, exacerbated by changes in leadership at EXCO and Board, was a mammoth task in itself. The journey to becoming a risk intelligent organisation required extensive work in firming up the Eskom risk policy, framework and standard which was well supported and approved by both EXCO and Board. Personal development is close to his heart which is evident in his participation in IRMSA over the last few years and in his support of the younger risk practitioners who he encourages to grow whilst on their own Risk Management career paths.
