Applying for Membership:
Please complete either Individual, Associate or Fellow application forms, based on the criteria you meet (Please refer to Structure of Membership grades and accreditation) and email back to email@example.com along with all scanned supporting documentation listed below:
1. Recently Certified Copy of ID (SA Residents) or Certified Copy of Passport (Non SA Residents) – not older than 3 months.
Associate and Fellow Applications:
1. Recently Certified Copy of ID (SA Residents) or Certified Copy of Passport (Non SA Residents) - not older than 3 months.
2. Recently Certified Copies of Certificates of Highest Qualification/s
3. Detailed CV
4. Proof of Employment -a letter from employer stating position, date of commencement of employment, current dated, signed.
This level of membership is open to all working in functional areas relating to the Risk Management field.

This level of membership applies to those that meet the criteria of any one of the two routes below:
Route 1 (experience)
Applicant has a minimum of 10 years of Risk Management experience (refer to table below) with no formal qualification equivalent to an NQF Level 6 or higher qualification.
Route 2 (qualifications & experience)
Route 2A – Applicant has a minimum of 3 years of Risk Management experience (refer to table below) with a Risk Management qualification of an NQF (National Qualifications Framework) Level 6 or higher.
Route 2B – Applicant has a minimum of 5 years of Risk Management experience (refer to table below) with a relevant qualification (which is not necessarily focused on the Risk Management) qualification of an NQF Level 6 or higher.

This grade is the most senior grade of membership and should reflect working experience in a risk management discipline in addition to academic qualification. A checklist for Fellow applications is listed below as a guideline to enable individuals to determine if they are eligible to apply for Fellow status. Approval of the application will, however, remain at the discretion of the IRMSA Membership Subcommittee and ratification by the Executive Committee.

Students up to the age of 26, who are currently enrolled in a
Certificate/ Degree/ Diploma on a full or part time basis are eligible for this membership category. Proof of registration must be supplied accordingly.
The following supporting documentation is required for
- Current-dated proof of registration at a Tertiary Education
Institution, stamped by the Institution
- Recently Certified copy of student card, stamped by the issuing
- Detailed CV
- Recently Certified copy of ID (SA Residents) or Passport (Non SA Residents)
Student membership currently carries no fees.
All Student Membership ratified in 2016, will be valid from the date of ratification until 28 February 2017.
Thereafter, Student Membership is renewable on an annual basis and is only valid while the student is enrolled in studies.
Students need to send an email to email@example.com along with supporting documentation (proof of continuing studies) when renewing.

Whether you are considering studying risk management or are just about to embark on your career, risk management will equip you with the resources required to become an integral part of any organisation, irrespective of the industry. The reason for this is that risk management has become a qualified profession in its own right, something which professionals are striving towards at the onset of their careers. Whilst the management of risk is an evolving discipline, varying from strategic to process, very few companies would make any significant decisions without first assessing the risks involved.
What does Risk Management entail?
Risk is part of every human endeavour from the moment we get up in the morning to when we go to sleep at night. As with everything in life, businesses are exposed to risks (that matter) of different degrees that either provide opportunities or lead to undesirable outcomes. A broad definition of risk is required in order to capture both the positive and negative outcomes. A risk is defined in the ISO 31 000 standard as the effect of uncertainty on objectives, whether positive or negative. The coupling of risk and reward is central to the risk definition and to the innovations that have been created in the study of all business activities.

• Once the completed application and documentation is received, it will be processed into our database and an invoice for the application fee will be generated, payable upon receipt of invoice. Note: Application fee does not apply to Corporate Member Applications.
• The application is then reviewed by the membership committee and you will receive feedback via email within approximately 1 month
• Provided you have mailed proof of payment and you have been ratified as a member, you will be emailed your certificate of membership.
• Membership is then renewable on an annual basis
NON SA RESIDENTS - Please note that your membership is renewable on
an annual basis with renewal notices sent to members in February each year.
Should you fail to renew your membership with IRMSA, or provide written
cancellation thereof, the Department of Home Affairs will be notified
Critical skills confirmation letter:
Should you require this letter, please request it in writing once you have been ratified as a member. The letter will only be issued once you have been accepted as member and payment received. The cost for this letter is R300.00 ex VAT. Please only make payment once you have a payment reference number as appears on the invoice.

- The subscription year runs from 1 March to the
last day of February.
- New Applicants - Should your application be successful and your membership
invoice is not settled within two months, you will be removed from the
system and will be required to start the entire application process again.
- Existing Members – Should you wish to cancel your membership with IRMSA, a written
cancellation is required to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. It is important to
note that any outstanding membership fees need to be settled before
cancellation can be accepted.
