IRMSA’s Continuous Professional Development Programme (CPD) was launched in January 2013.

Registered members are required to subscribe to continuous professional development in order to function effectively. The objective is to ensure that a continuous professional development culture relating to learning and competence is maintained at its highest level to ensure improvement, knowledge and skills enhancement as well as the development of personal qualities to ensure professional execution of duties throughout the Risk Manager’s career. They therefore have the responsibility to keep abreast of developments and knowledge in their area of expertise in order to maintain their competence. Members shall strive through personal initiative to maintain professional competence, and keep abreast of emerging issues, world trends, etc. in the field of risk management. Members shall contribute to the development of the risk management profession through the sharing of skills, ideas and participation in networking to promote and enhance the competence of the profession.

In order to maintain or upgrade your professional designation, all IRMSA Associate, Certified Risk Practitioner, Certified Risk Professional and Fellow Members will need to ensure that they comply with their CPD requirement. Failure to do so will mean the loss of the designation which the member currently holds as well as deregistration from the South African Qualifications (SAQA) National Learner Records Database (NLRD) where their details as well as professional standing have been recorded.

The CPD reporting is a two year fixed period from the beginning of January to the end of December of the following year. Members who join after September in a particular year will only be required to commence with CPD in January the following year.

The onus lies with the member to keep a record of their activities as well as attendance to CPD events e.g. signed attendance register, certificate etc. in the event they are chosen, as this may be required for audit purposes.

The recently updated CPD Policy provides members, across all regions, with various platforms through which CPD points can be obtained, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Below you will find the policy and guide to loading of points.

Each section/credit type should get at least half points per annum? as per the above table, to fully meet the points required for the 2-year period per designation.

  • Step 1 - Sign in with username and password. Click on manage profile, scroll down to content and features, then click on Professional Development tab
  • Step 2 - View overall journal, including individual journal entries, and overall certification progress
  • Step 3 - IRMSA will systematically allocate points for IRMSA events. View table for a list of self-allocated activities, when members are required to allocate own points. For all other events/activities completed, please click the ''Add Entry'' button to add entries to your CPD journal.
  • Step 4 - Once you click Add Entry, a pop up box appears wherein you add all self-allocated points as per the table guidelines.
  • Step 5 - Add entries as per the list and points guidelines in the table provided. Expiry date is two years from the day of entry
  • Step 6 – Select which credit type each event falls under - click here for guidance
  • Step 7 - Once submitted, view for correctness and completeness. Edit as appropriate, by clicking the edit icon or delete icon.
