Membership Classes

IRMSA offers membership for individuals and corporates. Please see the below classes that individuals and corporates can apply for: 

Student Membership

Student Membership - (feedback provided +/- 7 to 10 days after receiving the supporting documents)

Students aspiring to follow a career path in the Risk Management field. If applying for this class of membership, you need to meet ONE the following criteria: 
 

  • Free membership for individuals 26 years or younger, studying full-time or part-time and not working. 
  • Free membership for individuals between the ages of 27 and 35 studying full-time and not working. 
  • Graduates between the ages of 27 and 35 who are currently enrolled for an internship or learnership.
     

A nominal membership fee of R250 ex VAT will be applicable.

Individual Membership

Individual Membership - (feedback provided +/- 7 to 10 days after receiving the supporting documents)

Individuals aspiring to work/currently working at any level in functional areas related to the Risk Management field.
 

  • The membership year runs from 1 March to the last day of February. 
  • New applications approved from 1 September pay half the annual fee for that year. 
  • All applications for membership will be presented to the Membership Committee and a recommendation presented to the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA) Board for final approval. The final decision is at the discretion of the Board.  
  • It takes approximately 3 – 5 days for Individual Membership Applications to be processed. 
  • Upon receipt of the completed application form and supporting documents, an email will be sent confirming receipt of the same. The application will then be sent to the Membership Committee for review and a recommendation will be made to the Board for final approval. Feedback on your application will be sent to you via email with a tax invoice. Provided payment has been received, you will be emailed your Membership Certificate and Acceptance Letter accordingly.  
  • Should your application be successful, and your membership invoice is not settled within two months from date of issue, your application will be considered void, and you will be required to start the entire application process again. 
  • Further information may be requested to accurately determine the level of membership you qualify for.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership - (feedback provided +/- 7 to 10 days after receiving the supporting documents) 

This member class qualifies you to apply for the CRM Prac/Prof [Board Exams - Link to Board Exams Page) If applying for this class of membership, you need to meet ONE the following criteria: 
 

  • 3 years Risk Management experience and a relevant NQF 6 level (or higher) qualification 
  • 5 years Risk Management experience and a sector NQF 6 level (or higher) qualification 
  • 10 years Risk Management experience with no formal tertiary qualification 
     

This member class is open to individuals (Non-SA Resident) who meet the required criteria and would like to write the IRMSA Board Exams:
 

  • The membership year runs from 1 March to the last day of February.
  • New applications approved from 1 September pay half the annual fee for that year.
  • All applications for membership will be presented to the Membership Committee and a recommendation presented to the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA) Board for final approval.
  • The final decision is at the discretion of the Board. 
  • It takes approximately 30 days for Associate Membership Applications to be processed. Upon receipt of the completed application form and supporting documents, an email will be sent confirming receipt of the same. The application will then be sent to the Membership Committee for review and a recommendation will be made to the Board for final approval. Feedback on your application will be sent to you via email with a tax invoice. Provided payment has been received, you will be emailed your Membership Certificate and Acceptance Letter accordingly.

  • Associate Members gain access to the IRMSA Board Examinations. Separate registration fees apply.

  • No formal tertiary qualification and 10 years risk management experience

 

Corporate Membership

N.B) If you are applying for Corporate Membership for purposes of a tender application, please be advised that a 3-year upfront membership fee will be applicable. 

All companies can apply for corporate membership. The different tiers of corporate membership are broken down into the number of full-time employees within the entire organisation: 

As part of the value proposition, IRMSA offers Corporate Membership Packages. These offerings combine Corporate Membership with other services such as training and technical risk services. 
 

  • Company with 10 or less 
  • Company with 11 to 500 
  • Company with 501 to 5,000 
  • Company with 5,001 to 10,000 
  • Company with 10,000 or more 
Certification

Certification (Board Exams) 

Associate members can follow a professional career path by writing the IRMSA Board Exams in order to obtain the Certified Risk Management Practitioner (CRM Prac) and Certified Risk Management Professional (CRM Prof) designations.

The Risk Management Certified Practitioner certification is designed for individuals who seek to gain specialised background and expertise in risk management. The certification validates that the individual possesses a foundation level knowledge and experience to implement and manage an organisation’s risk management program under supervision. 

Certified Risk Management Professional (CRM PROF) 

Certified Risk Management Professional (CRM PROF) 

The Risk Management Certified Professional is a strategic level certification designed for individuals who have a specialised background in risk management. The certification validates that the individual possesses a comprehensive level of technical knowledge and experience required to assess, implement, and manage an organisation’s risk management program without supervision.
